Short answer: Priceline's Best Price Guarantee runs two lanes, both for VIP members. On a Pay Now hotel booking, a lower rate on Priceline itself within 24 hours refunds 100% of the difference. On an Express Deals booking, claim by midnight before travel for 200%, capped at the reservation total (O8).
Priceline is unusual among booking sites: its guarantee can fire when its own price falls. Most price matches compare your rate against another website and stop there (O3, C6). On ordinary hotel rates, Priceline's compares Priceline against Priceline (O8). That single difference decides whether you have a claim at all.
Do this now

- Check your membership. The Best Price Guarantee is for VIP members only (O8). Confirm your account status before you spend an hour on screenshots.
- Name your rate type. Pay Now and Express Deals run on different clocks and pay different amounts (O8).
- Pay Now: look for the same hotel, room type and dates cheaper on Priceline, inside 24 hours of booking (O8).
- Express Deals: file before midnight on the day before travel (O8).
- Capture the evidence while the rate is live - link, screenshot, price, timestamp (O8).
- Window gone? Stop chasing the guarantee and read your cancellation terms instead (R2, R3).
The two lanes, side by side
| Your booking | Deadline | What it pays | The comparison must be |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pay Now hotel rate | Within 24 hours of booking (O8) | 100% of the difference refunded (O8) | A lower rate on Priceline itself, same hotel, room type and dates (O8) |
| Express Deals (opaque) | Up to midnight before travel (O8) | 200% of the difference, capped at the reservation total (O8) | An identical rate that is not another Express Deal (O8) |
| Agoda or Booking.com booking | - | Not covered (O8) | - |
Both lanes need VIP membership (O8). Neither is a general right to the lowest price later; each is a claim window with a deadline.
What the Priceline Best Price Guarantee hotel rules actually cover
Start with the comparison. On a Pay Now booking, the lower price has to be on Priceline itself (O8). That is the opposite of Booking.com, where a cheaper rate on Booking.com is explicitly not a price-match case (O3). It is also the opposite of the hotel chains, whose guarantees compare other websites and never the chain's own later price (C6).
For a traveller this is genuinely useful. A rate that falls on the same site you booked is the hardest case to recover, because almost no programme is built for it (O3, C6). At Priceline, the 24-hour window is the only gate (O8).
Then the exceptions. The guarantee does not apply to Priceline's sister brands Agoda or Booking.com (O8). A cheaper Agoda rate is not a Priceline claim, even when both sell the same room. If you booked through Agoda, read how the Agoda Best Price Guarantee works instead.
Express Deals are the second lane, and the payout is deliberately larger: 200% of the difference (O8). The cap is the total cost of your reservation, and the comparison rate cannot itself be an opaque Express Deal (O8). Two blind rates are not a comparison. The point of the claim is that you found a publicly bookable price for the same room.

Illustrative, one bookingThe 24-hour window is the whole game
On a Pay Now booking you have one day from the moment you booked (O8). Not one day from when you found the drop. The 24 hours start at booking, not at discovery.
Set a reminder for the evening of the day you book. Open the same hotel, the same room type and the same dates on Priceline, and compare the total, not the headline. Taxes shown separately, currency, member-only prices and breakfast are the usual reasons two rates look different but are not (R4).
If the price has not moved inside that day, the guarantee lane closes. What remains is the ordinary rebooking question, and that depends entirely on your rate's cancellation terms (R2, R3).
When the guarantee does not fit
Non-refundable rates cannot be rebooked without losing money (R2). If your Pay Now rate is non-refundable and the 24 hours have gone, a cheaper rate later is not recoverable through Priceline - and it is not recoverable by cancelling either, because there is nothing to cancel without a fee (R2).
On a free-cancellation rate the safe order still works, guarantee or not. Confirm the new rate is the same hotel, room, board, guests and dates, and also free to cancel. Book it. Wait for the confirmation. Only then cancel the old booking, before its deadline (R1). That deadline usually falls 24 to 72 hours before check-in, in the hotel's local time (R3). The full routine is in how to rebook a hotel at a lower price.
How often is any of this worth doing? RatePunk's analysis of 28,000 tracked bookings found a lower rate appeared on 57% of them between booking and check-in (M1). Fermata's analysis of 92,235 room-stays put a lower publicly bookable rate on 54.2% of stays (M7). The constraint is rarely the price. It is the deadline, and whether your rate lets you act (H11, R2).
If you booked somewhere else
The large booking sites each run their own policy, and mixing them up wastes the one window you get. Booking.com compares another website only (O1, O3). Expedia and Hotels.com ended their guarantee on 28 July 2026, with no replacement announced (O4). Hotwire's applies to opaque Hot Rate bookings and refunds the difference without cancelling anything (O9). That mechanic is in what the Hotwire Low-Price Guarantee covers.
If you booked direct with Marriott or Hilton, the clock is also 24 hours, but the payout is richer. Marriott and Hilton both add an extra 25% off once a claim is approved (C1, C2). The comparison list is in how hotel price guarantees pay you back.
If the price fell on the site you booked and there is no claim route at all, the safe order plus a watch is the honest answer. That method is in hotel price dropped after booking, and you can read how the free watch works before you start.

FAQ
Is the Priceline Best Price Guarantee free to use? The guarantee is limited to VIP members (O8). Whether your account qualifies is the first thing to check, before you collect any screenshots.
Does Priceline match a cheaper rate on another website? Only in the Express Deals lane, and only against a publicly bookable rate that is not another Express Deal (O8). The Pay Now lane compares Priceline with itself, and sister brands Agoda and Booking.com are excluded (O8).
How much do I get back on an Express Deals booking? 200% of the difference, capped at the total cost of your reservation (O8). It is the largest payout among the booking-site guarantees covered here, and the cap is what limits it.
How long do I have to claim? 24 hours from booking on a Pay Now rate, and until midnight before travel on an Express Deal (O8). Neither deadline moves because you found the drop later.
The price fell after my 24 hours. Is anything left? Not through the guarantee. If your rate is free to cancel, rebook in the safe order and cancel the old booking before its deadline (R1, R3). If it is non-refundable, the drop is not recoverable (R2).
Can I claim if I booked through Agoda or Booking.com? No. The guarantee does not apply to Priceline's sister brands (O8). Use that site's own policy - Booking.com has its own price match with different rules.
